A beginner’s guide to family genealogy using only cost-free resources. This guide is specifically tailored to support hobbyist genealogists who are faced with the research difficulties surrounding ancestors who were held in slavery.
While online genealogy tools abound, it can be difficult to identify free resources to build robust family histories. This program is designed to help you begin to sketch out a family tree, identify functional research jumping-off-points, and put together a research plan. We will then review my bibliography of free resources ranging from court records and census maps to deeds indexes, and orphan’s court dockets.
